About life saving sports
St Kilda Lifesaving Club provides a range of opportunities to participate in Surf Lifesaving Sports both locally, nationally and internationally. Our main focus is Surf Boat Rowing, however we are working hard to develop other areas of competition. Read on to find out more about St Kilda’s involvement in surf sports competition.
At the very start of this year at the beginning of our 2014/15 Season St Kilda LIfe Saving Club competed in the Rescue 2014 World Championships in Montpelier France. The team came home with Gold in the Men’s and Women’s Masters World Title, the Reserve Grade World Title and Silver in the Open Women’s World Title. To top it off St Kilda Women were asked to represent Australia in the Nation Race at Biarritz Infinite Ocean event the following weekend which they also won!
This season St Kilda will be competing in both state and National events in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. We also occasionally enter teams in the Professional Series Ocean Thunder. The teams train out of the bay in St Kilda and from the club house gym. If you are interested in been apart of this challenge and prestigious sport please see I want to become a surf boat rower. St Kilda Lifesaving Club is also looking for junior rowers (under 19 / 23) so don’t be daunted if you aren’t as old as the rest of us!
After a long break from IRB racing for the club, back in the 2010/2011 season saw St Kilda take to the seas with an IRB crew once again! The team showed great promise in their first season and under the guidance more senior IRB racers at the club who bring a wealth of experience, they are assured a speedy improvement and much success in the future. If you would interested in joining the IRB team this season please see I want to compete in surf sports.
Other Surf Life Saving Sports
The club also has individuals who compete in sports such as open water swimming, board paddle and ski paddle. If you would be interested in becoming one of them please see I want to compete in surfsports.
